Putting Your Transitions Lenses In The Freezer

Have you ever been told that Transitions lenses need to be put into the freezer in order to be “Activated”?  This myth just doesn’t seem to go away.  I first heard it about fifteen years ago, when one of my customers had asked me if their new Transitions lenses needed to be put in the freezer overnight in order to be activated.  I thought it sounded a little strange, but I checked it out and discovered it was not true.  I can’t remember the last time I got this question in my store, but I began thinking about it recently and a quick google search revealed a blog post with lots of comments from glasses wearers reporting that their optician...

Transitions XTRActive Lenses Provide Fashion and Function

At Hicks Brunson Eyewear we love to fit Transitions XTRActive lenses on our clients for the extra blue light protection that they provide. An awesome bonus is that these are the only Transitions lenses that activate behind the windshield. This is due to the special blend of photochromic dyes in this lens that are reactive to both UV light and visible light. The picture of me above was taken when I recently wore my Transitions XTRActive lenses on a road trip to visit family on Thanksgiving.  I paired the grey lens color with a frame called Teory 1 by Face A Face.  The Teory frame is designed to give the appearance of floating lenses inside a black outline.  This frame and...

Brera by Etnia Barcelona

For those of you looking for an aviator with bit of an edge on the old traditional tear drop design, then look no further than Brera by Etnia Barcelona.  This black and gold color is hot with the gold mirrored lenses, and speaking of these lenses, the mineral crystal glass is of the highest optical clarity.  It is made by Barberini in Italy.  You see, Barberini is known for its’ exceptional quality glass lens craftsmanship.  The lenses in this color are also photochromic, which means they will darken slightly in brighter sun.  Just look at the way the light plays off of the gold mirror in the picture above.  I absolutely love that about mirrors, and how this effect is...

Parallel Sunglasses by Etnia Barcelona

Terry Pratchett has been quoted as saying, "So much universe and so little time." That is how I feel about the universe of eyewear.  There are so many good designs to suit your personality, face shape, and coloring.   So today I want to welcome you to the Parallel universe.  These striking sunnies are called Parallel, and they are designed and made by Etnia Barcelona in Spain.  The simple rectangular shape has a slight inward cut to on the outer rim with slightly rounded corners.  These subtle design features make it suitable and flattering for a wide range of faces.  I love the silver metal bridge and thin arched silver metal bar that runs nicely along the brow line.  It...

Best Sunglasses For Running

Many of my friends know that I am a runner, and that I have run many marathons and half marathons.  My current favorite sports frame that I wear while running is the Agon by Rudy Project.  As a runner I know that the best way to view the road is with the racing red lenses by Rudy Project.  Incidentally this happens to be a wonderful color for my fellow cyclists as well. I love the Agon frame because it is available in the ImpactX-2 Photochromic Clear to Red Lens.  This lens starts out clear and changes to the Racing Red color that is so good for seeing the contours of the road.  The red color is considered an HDR color....
