Two Masunaga Masters of Craft Frames, Two Custom Lens Looks

There are frames that make a statement—and then there are frames that become a canvas for exceptional lens design.

In our latest video, Daniel takes a closer look at two remarkable pieces from Masunaga’s Masters of Craft collection: the MOC 001 and MOC 004. Both represent the craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Masunaga, but the custom lenses we created for each give them distinctly different personalities.

Masunaga MOC 001: Silver Black & 18K Gold

The Masunaga MOC 001 Color B combines Silver Black with genuine 18K Gold detailing. This frame comes from the original Masters of Craft sunglasses collection release and is an especially distinctive example of Masunaga's approach to combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.

The MOC 001 is also becoming increasingly difficult to find. At the time of this video's publication, the MOC 001 Color C is still available—but there is only one left in stock.

For Daniel's MOC 001, we wanted the lenses to bring out the sophisticated character of the frame while adding an unexpected color story.

We used Endless Single Vision lenses with a custom gradient tint transitioning from Leaf Green 45% to Yellow 30%. The lenses also incorporate Transitions XTRActive Graphite Green, giving the finished look another dimension as the lenses respond to changing light conditions.

The result is a lens treatment that is anything but ordinary. The green-to-yellow gradient creates warmth and visual interest while complementing the refined metallic details of the MOC 001.

Masunaga MOC 004: Navy Tortoise & Antique Gold

The second frame is the Masunaga MOC 004 Color B, featuring a beautiful combination of Navy Tortoise and Antique Gold.

Where the MOC 001 takes a more nuanced approach to color, we decided to make the lenses on the MOC 004 much more vibrant.

For this frame, we created custom ZEISS Single Vision Anti-Fatigue lenses with a boost for reading. The lens color combines the ZEISS Jeans tint with ZEISS PhotoFusion X Blue, creating an exceptionally vivid outdoor blue.

The blue tint is a particularly striking complement to the navy tortoise and antique gold of the MOC 004. Rather than simply matching the frame, the lens color becomes an integral part of the overall design.

And that's one of the things we love most about custom eyewear: the frame is only part of the finished look.

The Art of the Custom Lens

When you're working with exceptional eyewear, there's no reason to stop at the frame.

Lens color, gradient, mirror treatments, light-responsive technology and lens design can all dramatically change the personality of a pair of glasses. A sophisticated frame can become something completely different depending on how the lenses are customized.

The MOC 001 and MOC 004 are great examples.

The MOC 001 pairs a refined Silver Black and 18K Gold construction with a subtle but unusual green-to-yellow gradient. The MOC 004 takes Navy Tortoise and Antique Gold in a much more vibrant direction with a rich outdoor blue lens.

Same philosophy. Completely different expressions.
