Empire State by Zero G
It is no secret that I have a bit of an aviator addiction. Now take that classic aviator shape, add a flip bridge and a sweet looking set of side shields that enhance both the fashion and function and you really have my attention. Today I am going to tell you about one of the crown jewels of the Zero G titanium eyewear collection, which happens to be one of my favorite sets of sunnies in my personal collection. This, my friends, is the limited edition Empire State.
Owning one of these puts you in a pretty exclusive club. The one you are looking at in the picture is 1 of only 90 that were made.
There are several unique characteristics of the Empire State that make it stand out among the crowd. Designer Tom Cody was inspired by the signature intrecciato technique of woven leather used in the design of Botegga Venetta luxury bags. In order to create this leather weave look Tom Cody found a way, working with the craftsmen at Masunaga Optical in Japan, to use 3D printing technology to print a textured surface on flat sheet metal. The detailing is beautiful.
Those cool looking side shields I mentioned earlier are made of Japanese acetate, and the lenses are polarized by Carl Zeiss. Translation…the protection and comfort provided by the Empire State is perfecto on those bright and sunny days. Oh, and the box they come with is pretty spiffy too!
