Coco by Masunaga
I have previously written about the NY Life frame, which is one of several great pieces from Masunaga’s latest 1920’s art deco inspired titanium collection. This week I am looking at a more feminine frame from this collection named Coco after style icon Coco Chanel. Chanel has been attributed for saying, “A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.”
“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” -Coco Chanel
I love that quote and I love how eloquently Masunaga captured that classy vibe with the Coco frame. It is a thin titanium round shape, with a thin plastic upper rim along the brow line that is the perfect frame to wear to that cocktail party you are going to this month.
All the metal is hand crafted from pure Japanese titanium, so you can be sure that the fit will be comfortable and the engineering will stand the test of time. I find it fascinating that there are over 200 manual processes involved in making a single Masunaga frame. They are the only factory in Japan where all those processes from raw materials to production and finishing are all handled under one roof. Part of the reason the frames are so comfortable is that the craftsmen in the factory hand file the backside of the frame front and temple edges in between a series of steps including barrel polishing and clay polishing.
The high level of quality and craftsmanship is evident from every frame that comes from Masunaga. You can see and feel the 110 plus years of experience in every frame they make including the new titanium Coco. Oh, you will look quite fabulous too!
