The T.S. Eliot Look in Natural Horn
Last fall I wrote about a nice little round shape with a flat top rim that I dubbed the T.S. Eliot look. Eliot was one of the 20th century’s major poets who was very quotable. You can read more about him and his eyewear at my post here.
He once said, “You are the music while the music lasts.” I love that quote because to me a well-made piece of eyewear that is handcrafted from natural horn is the result of a musical symphony between nature and human design.
I am writing about the T.S. Eliot look again because Tom Davies has decided to recreate this shape in a frame from his buffalo horn range. When I saw this shape among the new horn frames I was ecstatic. Horn is a nice material to wear for many reasons. It comes from natural resources and is a sustainable farmed product. It is 35% lighter than acetate, and since it is hypoallergenic it is gentle on the skin and allergy safe. I have been wearing horn for a few years now, and I make no secret about one of my prized possessions from my personal collection being a classic P3 horn frame.
